PICTURES!
These are from my trip to Mexico City with the school to see the
Basilica of the Virgin of Guadalupe and the Ruinas de Teotihuacan.
This is a church at the site of the Basilica that is sinking into
the ground (formerly swamp) of Mexico City.
This is the front of the Basilica which you can see was build recently
in a modern style.
Good picture of some of the students in front of the the shrine:
Scott, Keri, Luke, Jenny, and Jimena |
Everybody looking at the churches near the shrine while our guide
tells us about the history.
These are the amazing garden in the area for the Virgin.
This is a really cool waterfall with a statue of the Virgin greeting
pilgrims in front.
Everybody taking picture of the waterfall and enjoying the beautiful
gardens.
Getting ready for a big group picture. I forgot to give them my
camera... oops.
Coming back from the gardens and posing with my friends in front
of a statue of Juan Diego and the Virgin..
The inside of the shrine where they were having mass. The shrine
is just huge and in a modern architectural style.
Eric and I get our picture taken in the Basilica.
A carving of Juan Diego which isn´t right because indians
of the area he lived in never had beards.
This is the actual cape itself with the image of the Virgin on it.
I came to learn that the image is full of simbolism for Mexico.
Luke with a print of the image of the Virgin.
Ruins of the old city of Teotihuacan.
View of the Pirámide del Sol from the ruins of the noble
sector of town.
Painting of a preist in a jaguar costume paying tribute to a god.
Interest what they have found in the recent past. The flash isn´t
what´s making these paintings fall apart. The polution in
the air from Mexico City is causing the paint to be destroyed and
fall off.
Really cool pillar in a courtyard used for worship of the goddess
of Venus.
Going out into the street to walk over to the pyramids. All of the
buildings in the city are aligned with stars and the sun and moon.
Piramide de la Luna (Pyramid of the Moon). Wow, these pyramids are
so awesome.
The group is shown how the Teotihuacanos used cactii to make colored
dye for paint.
This pyramid is just really amazing. I think the Pyramid of the
Sun is even bigger though.
There is the Pirámide del Sol on the left and you can see
that the street is full of people going to look at and climb that
one. We were going to climb the Pyramid of the Moon too but it was
closed that day.
The group in front of the Pyramid of the Moon walking toward the
Pyramid of the Sun.

View of the Pirámide del Sol from the main street.
Wow.. if that isn´t incredible...
Climbing the Pyramid... it sure wasn´t as bad as the mountain
in Tepoztlan!
This was a really awesome view of the ruins while climbing the Pyramid.
There is no way to capture all of the view. It was really beautiful
with the mountains in the background too.
More ruins and a view of the main street with mountains in the background.
There was an great view of the Pyramid of the Moon from up there.
Photo of Katie and Me at the top with the Pyramid of the Moon behind
us.
Just a really great view of the really cool mountains of Mexico
City.
I didn´t even mean to do this but this is the perfect shot:
Mexico is for lovers... ha ha.
Then we went back down to the street to get ready to leave for lunch.
The view of the pyramids from the street was just really cool. This
was such a neat trip. I had been looking forward to visit these
pyramid for some time.
Some people went and bought stuff, like Sarah here posing with David
in her new Mariachi hat.
In the restaurant students were posing for silly pictures with all
this mexican stuff. I really liked this one. The huge Corona bottle
is the best... ha ha.
